Leadership from the Girl Scouts of Colorado invited our Brownie troop to participate in the 2022 Women of Distinction event with other scouts from Denver and across the state.
This year’s event featured diverse honorees and speakers, and leadership wished to emphasize the global community of scouts and the many traditions we share.
As most of our troop attends Denver Language School and studies either Spanish and Mandarin, we were specifically asked to provide a multi-lingual opening to the evening’s program. (Thank you to Maria from DLS’ older Junior troop for suggesting us!)
Anabel and Mila learned the Girl Scout Promise in their languages of study, Spanish and Mandarin. Wanting a third scout to highlight how girls work as a team, Aurelia joined to lead the Promise in English.
Congratulations to Anabel, Mila and Aurelia for being brave to volunteer to speak in front of over 700 people and for spending hours and hours practicing to make it look so effortless!
Additionally, Aaliyah, Iris, Kaitlyn, Josephine, Gemma, and Penelope participated in non-speaking Ambassador roles, helping to lead honorees down to the stage or exhibiting sponsor signs.
At the Denver Botanic Gardens, we were divided into multi-age groups to perform various duties. Girls were excited to spend time with DLS’ Junior troop.

The other half of our troop was in Group 1:
Girls held sponsor signs at the entrance and welcomed guests to the event.
Our speakers kicked off the program with a speech about being part of a global sisterhood and the Girl Scout Promise in Mandarin, Spanish and English.
Thankfully, the weather cooperated and we were able to gather outside.
Group 1 girls walked honorees down to the stage. Angela Baier, CEO of CollegeInvest was gracious to let some of the girls hold her award as she talked about the exciting new Future Me patch program sponsored by CollegeInvest.
Each Girl Scout who completes the patch program receives a free $25 starter account. Caregivers who complete additional training on funding college education through the CollegeInvest 529 program will receive a $100 deposit in the account.
The money is awesome, but the girls were especially excited to learn the patch is glow-in-the-dark. :-)
Meeting GSCO CEO Leanna Clark was a highlight, especially for our three speakers.
All the girls had a blast. It was an experience they will remember forever.
Thank you to Melissa and Leanna for inviting us to be a part of this thrilling evening!
So proud of these amazing young ladies!
